Analytic Triggers: Using Camera Analytics

Analytic Triggers: Using Camera Analytics

Analytic Events

Supported analytic event triggers from a camera mounted to the bridge can generate alarm signals and video events.  These events are based on a supported API connection with the camera. The network event message has topic information that defines each type of rule creating the event. This is most commonly understood as an analytic event from a camera or recorder. CHeKT does not support all Analytics or ONVIF triggers, so it is essential that you test this method before deploying to a monitored location.
It is important to understand, that these analytic rules are retrevied over the network via the ONVIF PullPoint Subscription API method.  So your camera must support this ONVIF API and be mounted to the bridge using the ONVIF. In addition to the ONVIF API, the Axis API and the Optex API have recently been integrated to also transmit analytic rules, so any Axis or Optex brand cameras can be mounted via their respective API.

Enabling ONVIF Events Message as the Alarm Trigger Source

There are two ways of enabling the ONVIF Event Topics.  During the initial mounting process of adding a camera to the bridge or via the settings for a pre-mounted camera.

1. Enabling from the mounting process:

In Step 6 as instructed in the Adding Cameras to a CHeKT Bridge article, from the drop-down menu of "Alarm Trigger Source" select the "ONVIF/Analytic Event Trigger" option and click "Next" to save and move to Step 7 and complete.

2. Enabling from Settings (for pre-mounted cameras):

      A. Under the site account, click on the site devices tab, find and select the setting gear icon of the targeted camera.

      B. In Settings, click over to the "Alarm Tab" the click and select the "Alarm Source" option.

      C. In the Alarm Source window, click to select "ONVIF Event Message" and click "Save Changes" to complete.

ONVIF Event Message Tool

Once the ONVIF Event Message has been enabled as the Alarm Trigger Source, you can now monitor and manage the analytic rules that will be triggering the bridge from the mounted camera via the Onvif Event Message Tool.

Accessing the Onvif Event Message Tool

To access the ONVIF Event Message Tool, simply click the gear settings icon next to it in the "Alarm Source" section of the "Alarm" tab.

Understanding the Onvif Event Message Tool

1. The Analytic event topics listed in the tool window, are the topic rules that are currently supported by CHeKT for the mounted camera brand.  In the example below, the brand is Vivotek.  All enabled topics will generate alarm and video events. If a topic is disabled, the Bridge will ignore this topic trigger from the camera. By default, motion rules are disabled due to their triggering method, which are based on pixel change, enabling these rules could result in a mass usage of your monthly events plan.

2. The ONVIF Event Overview is a graph gathered from the data in section 3 which represents all of the valid events triggers sent by the mounted device. The number of events is the total number of events received by The Bridge, not the number of alarms generated by the camera.

3. Retrieved Data of (a). ONVIF Event Rule Triggers, (b). CHeKT Supported (Event Topics), and the (c). Number of Events (per Topic).
a. Onvif Event Rule Triggers: This column populates all Analytic Rule Triggers that communicate over the ONVIF protocol. This list include all of the topic rules in section 1 and database, plus topic rules that your camera may generate and are communicated to the bridge via ONVIF, but have not been added or supported.
b. CHeKT Supported: This column populates the classification of all topic rules.
Supported: Event Topic/Rules that are CHeKT supported to generate an alarm event when it's triggered by the camera. Only supported and enabled topics will generate an alarm event.
Enabled/Disabled: Displays whether a topic rule has been configured by the dealer to create or ignore event triggers. Enabled Topics will create alarm events and disabled topics will be ignored by the bridge.
Unsupported: Event Topic/Rules that your camera may generate and are not supported or have been added to our CHeKT database. Its important to understand that unsupported topics from your camera do not create an alarm or video event on our bridge.  If you would like to create an event with a topic that is not supported, please contact our support team.
c. Number of Events: This is the count of how many times the bridge has registered a topic from the camera, not the number of alarm events created. This number is retrieved from an internal bridge log buffer and is periodically reset.
