Camera Requirements and Compatibility

There are a couple of requirements for an IP camera or HD over coax recorder to work with the CHeKT Bridge.

1. The CHeKT Bridge connects to IP Cameras and Recorders using the ONVIF protocol. This protocol is a standard in the video industry that has been widely adopted by most camera manufactures since about 2016.  For more information on ONVIF follow this link.

While ONVIF is a standard, not all manufacturers integrate their use of the ONVIF protocol the same.  Depending on the manufacture and brand you may need to changes specific settings on the camera or recorder before it will connect properly to the Bridge.

2. The Bridge will need access to the secondary stream of the IP camera or recorder. If the secondary stream is disabled or unavailable then the Bridge will not be able to connect to the device.

The reason we are using the secondary stream is to allow the primary stream to remain in HD resolution and high frame rate for local recording.  In addition, while using the secondary stream, the Bridge will scale with video resolution and frame rate to optimize the upload of video to the CHeKT portal, ensuring the monitoring station always has access to the video on a camera.
