Camera Alarm Input Setup & Event Handling

Camera Alarm Input Setup & Event Handling

Overview

This article explains how to configure an alarm input on a camera, customize alarm responses, and understand how alarm events are communicated to the VCP.

Configuring Alarm Input Settings

To configure the alarm input for your camera:

  1. Ensure the external sensor is properly wired to the camera before proceeding. (As shown in the image above)
  2. Navigate to Camera Configuration > Alarm > Alarm Input Settings
  3. Select the appropriate Tigger Mode based on the type of sensor being used: Normally Closed (NC) or Normally Open (NO)

Choosing the correct trigger mode is critical to ensure the alarm functions as expected.

Customizing Alarm Actions

From the same Alarm Input Settings screen, you can customize the camera’s alarm responses, including:

  • White Light Alarm
    – Configure whether the camera’s white light activates during an alarm event.
  • Audible Alarm
    – Enable or disable an audible alert from the camera.
  • Audible Alarm File
    – Select the audio file that will be played when an audible alarm is triggered.
Idea
Audible Alarms can also be programmed in Automation Rules via the CHeKT Dealer Portal.

These options allow you to tailor the alarm behavior to meet customer requirements.

Scheduling Alarm Actions

If needed, you can configure a schedule to define when the alarm actions (white light and audible alarms) are active.

Warning
Important:
Even if a camera alarm schedule is configured, the VCP will only generate alarm events when the site is in an armed state.

Saving the Configuration

After completing all configuration changes, click Apply to save the settings.

Alert
Changes will not take effect unless they are applied.

Alarm Event Communication to VCP

When an alarm is triggered, the camera communicates the event to the VCP via ONVIF using the following event path: Device/Trigger/DigitalInput

This ONVIF event is used by the VCP to recognize and process the alarm input from the camera.
