Bridge Installation - Wiring & Setup Steps

Bridge Installation - Wiring & Setup Steps

1. Connect power

Connect 12VDC power using the 4-pin terminal block included in the package. You can power the bridge using the 12 volt power output from the alarm panel. Power status LED will turn solid green when it is poweredon. The bridge can also be powered by a standard 12VDC transformer.

  • 12VDC Power Requirement
  • 250mA ~ 400mA Power Draw per unit

2. Connecting Arming Input

Like an alarm panel, the armed state of the Bridge will control when the alarm input zones are active or not. The following is the default setting: when 12v is applied to the arming pins, the Bridge is armed. This option can be changed through the options on the dealer web portal. If your alarm panel allows, you can use the voltage out from an alarm panel to set the CHeKT Bridge to follow the alarm panel’s arm/disarm status.

Learn more about the Bridge Arming Input here.

3. Connect sensors

There are 4 alarm input zones on the Bridge. Each of your existing alarm zones will simply use the input zone of each channel on the Bridge. The Bridge will work with any device that can trip the alarm input of the bridge. The alarm zones each consist of an (I)nput, (G)round* and (O)utput.

If the Bridge is powered by the alarm panel, then (G) is not needed. Simply connect the bridge input on the alarm zone side of your loop. Repeat this for each alarm zone going through the Bridge. Whenever that detector is activated, the signal will simply trip the input on the Bridge, creating an alarm signal. Simultaneously, the Bridge will upload video to the CHeKT web portal. If you are using a relay to trip the zone then use the (I) and (G) terminals.  See diagrams below:

If the Bridge is powered by a source external to the alarm panel you will need to connect (G) terminal.  *All ground terminals on the Bridge are common.

The 4 LED lights on the Bridge will turn-red when a sensor circuit is open; they turn  off when sensor circuit is closed. If nothing is connected the LED will remain solid-red.

**Note: The Bridge Zones can support a N.O. or N.C. condition, the default is N.C. Changes to the alarm zone state are done in the Dealer portal on the Bridge settings.  In the default, N.C., state the LED lights will be off when the zone is closed and illuminated red when the zone opens.  If you are using a N.O. loop the LED lights will stay "Red" when the loop is open, and turn off when the zone is in alarm (V0 and V1 only).

*V2 Bridges have logic that will change the LED behavior when the Portal Setting is updated. For V2 Bridges, "Red" is alarm and "off" is normal condition regardless of NO or NC conditions.

Where can I place my resistor? On the zone end or at the alarm panel?

When passing zones through the Bridge, the resistors should be placed at the alarm panel. If the resistor must be installed at end-of-line, an auxiliary relay board is recommended to activate the Bridge. It is important to test the functionality of the detector activating both the Bridge and the alarm panel.

4. Connect trouble digital output (V0 and V1 Only)

The CHeKT Bridge has a digital output that can activate a zone on the alarm panel when there is a trouble condition with the Bridge.

Connecting this is not mandatory  the CHeKT cloud can communicate trouble conditions to the Central Station over XML. Trouble digital output is recommended to provide a higher level of supervision.

The digital output is activated with one or more of following trouble conditions:

  • Power down

The DO immediately opens the circuit when the Bridge has lost power.

  • Network down

The DO opens when the Bridge loses a connection to the CHeKT cloud for any reason (usually when the internet connection is down) There is an option to control event hold-off time (5 minutes, default) for network down for customer locations where short & intermittent internet disconnection is normal.

  • Connection lost to connected cameras

The DO opens when the Bridge loses a connection to one of its connected cameras. This happens when; A) the camera is powered off B) the camera is malfunctioning or C) the camera's IP address is changed. **This function only works with IP based cameras and the IP of a DVR.

What happens if one of the connected cameras' IP address is changed?

In a DHCP network environment, IP addresses can be reassigned. If this happens, using the MAC address, the CHeKT Bridge will automatically connect to the camera and update the IP address.

If the Bridge is unsuccessful reconnecting to the camera, a trouble condition will occur.

5. Internet Connectivity

Power up the Bridge and plug it into the network. (make sure it is connected to a port that has access to the internet) The Bridge will automatically accept an address from the DHCP server.

Network status LED indicates connection status to the CHeKT cloud.

  • Turned off:  No assigned IP address. Check network connection.
  • Single blink:  Assigned IP address, but it is not able to connect to the CHeKT cloud. Check internet connection and necessary outbound ports of the assigned IP address.
  • Double blink:  Connected to the CHeKT cloud, but the device is not registered in the CHeKT cloud. Check out our guide of Registering CHeKT Bridge to Customer Site
  • Solid on:  Connected to the CHeKT cloud and it is registered device.

Here's summary of how status LED works:

Power status LED

It is always on when the device is powered on.

Network status LED

It indicates connection status to the CHeKT cloud

  • Turned off: No assigned IP address
  • Single blink: Assigned IP address, but it is not able to connect to the CHeKT cloud
  • Double blink: Connected to the CHeKT cloud, but the device is not registered in the CHeKT cloud
  • Solid on: Connected to the CHeKT cloud and it is registered device

Connectivity Information:

  • DHCP Enabled Network: The Bridge obtains an IP address using DHCP.  The Bridge does not support a static IP address.
  • Port Settings: The Bridge needs access to port 80 and 443 through the network firewall.
  • White List Information:  If the local area network is using a web proxy service, it is possible that the LAN IP address of the bridge and *.chekt.com need to be added to your white list.

Sensor status LED

*This function will vary depending on your hardware version; not sure? Click here: https://support.chekt.com/portal/kb/articles/which-hardware-version-is-my-bridge

V0 and V1:

The LED will be Red when the sensor circuit is in a open state and off when the state is closed (normal), independent of the programmed definition of the sensor type in the Dealer Portal. In other words, Red is always "open circuit" and Off is always "closed circuit" independent of whether and open or closed creates an "alarm."

V2

It turns on when sensor circuit is in "Alarm" condition and turns off when the condition is normal. For a DI programmed as "normally closed" in the Dealer Portal, this light will be Red (alarm) when the circuit is opened and Off (normal) when the circuit is closed.

When set as "normally open," the light will be Red when the circuit is closed and off when the circuit is a in an open condition.
